NPC's - The main uses & varieties


Within my research of a various games, I have come across another possible key factor, in trying to keep a player engaged with the platform, in this case its primarily in the form of assistants that aid us. These assistants, being the NPC, a character that I would consider to be an influential part of keeping our user engaged. These characters can come in a variety of differerent flavours, (such as: merchants, enemies, quest-givers or even to those randomly in the background to add substance to our levels) but when condensed to a basic property, it's either there to help or hinder the user on their journey.
